Dr Dan Pitt recently wrote for ConservativeHome reflecting on his experience as the Conservative candidate in the Long Eaton North council by-election.
In the article, he sets out the lessons he drew from the campaign — from the importance of clear principles and disciplined organisation, to the value of energetic doorstep engagement and strong team morale. Although the result was a narrow defeat, the campaign significantly increased the Conservative vote share and cut the winning margin dramatically. Dr Pitt argues that hard work, optimism and clarity of purpose remain essential to rebuilding support at a local level.
